New BBC3 series offers paid work placements for unemployed 16 – 24 year olds
- 9-25-2011
How to apply
UP FOR HIRE LIVE is a unique interactive series for BBC Three, transmitting from 17 – 20 October, which aims to help young people who are out of work, or in temporary jobs, to start a new career.
Recent government figures show that unemployment amongst 16 – 24 year olds has risen to nearly one million, so this series couldn’t be more relevant. Business leaders and celebrity guests will be taking part to share their stories and highlight the reality of the world of work. In order to shine a light on the recruitment process and for viewers to receive tips on applying for a job, a range of major companies representing the retail, leisure and technology sectors are offering a number of paid work placements throughout the UK. We plan to film part of this process for inclusion in UP FOR HIRE LIVE.
If you would like to be considered for any of these opportunities, please check out the following criteria to make sure one of these placements would be right for you:
- Are you a BBC Three viewer who is out of work and looking for a job, working in a temporary job, or are you struggling to find the right role for you?
- Are you genuinely interested in working in retail, leisure or technology?
- Are you in agreement that if selected for an interview, you may be filmed?
- Are you potentially available for interview during the weeks of Monday 3 and Monday 10 October?
- If asked, would you be willing to be part of the studio audience in London for one of the live shows from 17 - 20 October?
- Are you eligible to work in the UK?
If the above applies to you, check out the following:
- Download the job specs on the Opportunities page, choose which one you would like to apply for, then download and complete the application form and return it to applyupforhire@bbc.co.uk no later than midnight on 27 September, along with your CV. The companies are unable to consider applications made after this time. Please make sure you attach your CV. It's vitally important that you put the name of the company you are applying for in the subject field in your email.
- The companies will consider all applications received within the stated time frame (23 – 27 September) and will then inform the individuals selected for interview. Unfortunately, due to the numbers involved they will not be able to contact people who haven’t been called for interview. UP FOR HIRE LIVE aims to provide general advice on why job seekers aren’t shortlisted or selected for positions and some applicants will be invited to the studio to receive expert help.
- NB: Candidates will be reimbursed for reasonable travel expenses from their home to attend interviews, subject to our Travel Expenses Policy, which candidates for interview will be advised of at the relevant time.
- Please note: some of the placements require a level of qualifications, which are listed in the Opportunities document. Here you’ll also find more details of what’s on offer, when and where the interviews will be held for each role. Please note that the interviews for each placement are only being held at the locations and on the dates listed.
- By applying for these placements you are agreeing to potentially being filmed for the series during your interview and/or assessment process.
- Any placements which are offered will be subject to the individual company’s normal contract of employment.
- We can confirm that the BBC and LOVE Productions will not be involved, at any stage in the selection of candidates and so cannot enter into any correspondence regarding your application.
Visit the Opportunities page to find out more about the placements on offer.
